Ford Evos to Debut at Frankfurt (Slideshow) - Wall Street Journal (blog)

Ford Motor Co. says it will unveil its Evos concept car at the Frankfurt Motor Show this month. The car maker says the sleek, aggressively styled Evos with gull-wing doors reflects its new global design direction and will also act as a showcase for future powertrains and other technology.

"The Ford Evos Concept unites three key elements which are at the core of our One Ford global product strategy: outstanding design, smart technologies and fuel economy leadership," said Derrick Kuzak, Ford's group vice president of global product development.

The car is meant to use technology in a way that makes the overall driving experience more pleasant, Ford says. It seeks to form a constant interface with the driver's "personal cloud" of information. Using this information the Evos can "know" the driver in a way that helps it automatically adjust its handling, steering and engine controls to provide an especially rewarding driving experience.

It also seeks to link the owner's life at home and work with life in the car, so it would know to play the same music or news program that was just streaming at home. I could communicate with devices at the home and office and do thing s like close the garage door and switch off the lights automatically as the driver leaves.

As usual, though, the concept car relies mainly on its appearance to attract attention, and the Evos' low-slung fastback styling gives the look of a high-end sports car. Still, it has styling cues from the grill and headlights to its upturned rear end that recall current models like the Focus compact and Taurus sedan.
