Miami Beach certainly values its parking. The city announced on Friday that Zaha Hadid, left, has joined the ranks of prominent architects lending their talents and star power to Miami Beach's garages. Ms. Hadid is to design the garage at Collins Park, a neighborhood shared by the Miami City Ballet, the Bass Museum and the City Library. Among the "starchitects" who have designed garages are Frank Gehry; Herzog & de Meuron, Arquitectonica, Enrique Norten and Perkins & Will. "Even our parking garages are more than a group of parking spaces," Matti Bower, the Miami Beach mayor, said in a statement. "Some have become destinations within themselves and have attained individual iconic status. Every building can be a work of art."
